Redesigning

Iconic imagery

Since the inception of the iconic Rider-Waite deck, there has been an explosion of artistic reinterpretations of the classic tarot. I find myself deeply intrigued by the symbols and icons of tarot across different eras, delving beyond mere spirituality. Each deck serves as a canvas for the artist's ambitions and inner psyche, while also reflecting the prevailing cultural zeitgeist.

In 2023, I embarked on a personal challenge: using Blender, a 3D program, in conjunction with Photoshop to craft my own 22-card Major Arcana deck. My initial choice was to render them in black and white, aiming to convey the subject matter through stark contrast and nuanced shading. The reliance on universal symbols and archetypes became even more crucial, as they communicate with the viewer without the aid of color.

Drawing inspiration from historical art styles such as woodcut prints and ink illustrations, I sought to blend elements of the past with the future, bridging the realms of digital and analog.
